It has been 71 years since the creation of Parque Nacional Sajama, the first protected area in Bolivia, and less than 20 years since the Park has been managed and is under the administration of the National Service of Protected Areas. However, almost 200 years ago the first collections of plants had already been made in what is now the Park and, to date, more than 20 scientific and technical publications have been produced. In spite of this, it is only now that a valuable guide like the one presented, called El Parque Nacional Sajama y sus plantas, has emerged; which covers a gap in scientific diffusion since it exposes in a didactic way the flora of the Park to a wider public, of naturists, park rangers, local population, tourists, students, and any person interested in learning more about the high Andean flora. The guide contains information about 207 species of plants, which represent almost 100% of the existing species in the Park, excluding non-vascular plants (lichens and mosses) which deserve a separate publication, because of their complexity and richness. It describes the morphology of the species, the scientific names of other plants whose morphology is similar, the use that the local population gives them (medicinal, forage, food, among others), their geographical distribution (altitudinal range and distribution in America), the type of growth habit (tree, shrubs, cushions, herbs, bushes and rosettes), the habitats where they are found within the Park (e.g., queñua forests, grasslands, tholares and bofedales), and their state of conservation. It is presented as a very didactic document since each description is supported by photographs and/or botanical illustrations very well achieved.
