RESERVA ECOLÓGICA ANTISANA (EC-ANT)
Description
The Antisana site is located outside the western boundary of the Reserva Ecológica Antisana (REA). The REA is located in the eastern cordillera, 45 km east of Quito. Together with the Cayambe-Coca National Park (PNCAY), they constitute the upper watershed of the Napo River. One of the attractions of the REA is the Antisana volcano (5758 m asl), one of the largest and highest in the country. It is an active strato-volcano, which has reported some eruptive events, the most recent being the one that partially filled the old glacial valley of the Papallacta River, giving rise to the formation of the lagoon of the same name.
The installation of the site began in August 2012 and ended in February 2013. A first re-sampling was carried out in 2018.
Location
The site is located in the area of the former Hacienda Antisana which was acquired (in part) and is currently managed by the Metropolitan Public Water and Sanitation Company (EPMAPS), in order to conserve areas of water interest for the Quito Metropolitan District. It is located approximately -0.465 LS and -78.204 LO.
